Websense Web Security Gateway helps the Florida-based healthcare organization Health First successfully defend against Web 2.0 threats, while still allowing their employees to use the Internet for business purposes.
Leaders at Health First realized Web 2.0 had the potential to offer new ways to communicate with patients, employees and potential new patients. Protecting sensitive patient data and the integrity of the organization, however, was a paramount consideration and staff worried that opening access without the right security, policies and planning could be disastrous – because Web 2.0 sites are a top target of cybercriminals and a major source of data loss if not managed properly.
Health First information security architect Frank Waszmer says "Web 2.0 has quickly diminished the effectiveness of traditional security solutions like signature-based antivirus and traditional URL filtering, because it’s dynamic and constantly changing. Reputation-based security is also not enough, as Web 2.0 sites generally have a "good" reputation."
