Apologies, this question is a bit complicated. We currently have a Server 2003 server running Email Security v 6.1 and every so often, seemingly at random intervals, the C Drive fills up and the service stops working, queuing all the external mail in both directions until the C Drive is cleared out. Once it's cleared out a little bit the space seems to dramatically increase. For example we cleared out a couple of Gb and the server now has over 8Gb of free space (it's size is 16Gb) . I have a bit of a two fold question:
1. Is there anything on the C Drive that could cause this surge in space usage then clear itself out? The server has 40Gb of space on another drive, is there anything we can move to there to stop the surge happening again?
2. The server it is running on is a bit old now. We have Hyper-V, would the Email Security work effectively on that or does it have to be a physical box? I noticed a question about VMWare where the response was one of the services has to be physical, does the same apply to Hyper-V? We only use one server, should we be splitting the services across 2 or three?
Sorry for so many questions at once, and thanks for any replies
You can move your WES databases to the new server.
You can change the following default path folders in the Server Configuration window select Receive,Rules and Send Service:
C:\Program Files\Websense Email Security\In (\Out and \Work)
To change the location, enter a different path or click Browse and select another location.
We recommend you run Email Security on a physical box.
Best regards
Great, thanks for replying. I'll try that.
Please follow the instructions below to move your WES databases to the new server.
1.Stop all Email Security services on your WES server. 2.Back up all the WES databases, like STEMLog,STEMConfig,STEMDashboard and STEMFriendlyName databases in SQL Enterprise Manager/ Management Studio. (If you are running SQL Express version, you can download and use SQL Server Management Studio Express) Then, copy the archived databases files to your new SQL server. 3. Restore WES databases from the archived files on your new SQL server. 4. Update the ODBC connections of WES databases on your WES server to point to your new SQL server and ensure that you can pass the connection test for all the databases. 5. Start all the Email Security services.
