PPeters Posted 05-22-2009 12:53 PM an item in the Forums titled The user interface needs help
I would recommend that the developers of Personal Email Manager (PEM) pay that article some very close attention. I think that PPeters has captured succinctly some of the major feature requirements of PEM.
I would like to lend my encouragement to one feature in particular
You need to be able to selectively delete messages in the interface.
PPeters says "Right now the only option is to delete everything. If I've got just a few minutes to work at 'taking out the trash', it doesn't pay for me to review anything because I can't delete any of the reviewed messages until I'm ready to delete them all."
This captures the issue why we need the feature very well. I have a staff population that on average have 230 messages in PEM isolation. We also have an Automatic Queue management configured to delete items that are older than 21 days (which seems fair to us). However this means that often we have around 50,000 (fifty thousand) messages accumulated in isolation.
When we attempt to encourage our users to tidy up we rarely have any success, and the reason given to us is usually to do with the fact that a users needs to page through a long list of many messages to ensure that they do not need a single messages before they choose the option to "Delete all Junk Email". In the meantime new isolated messages could have been added to the list, so that when you choose "Delete all Junk Email" a user is faced with the prospect that they might have just deleted a message that they had not seen.
Maybe a Websense person would like to comment on why this feature is still not available in the PEM product or why it is so difficult to implement in the product or what the rationale is otherwise to the feature being unavailable in the product.
I have seen at least a couple of other SPAM management products that provide end user management. Those products provided the ability to select or 'check' a single or multiple message items in the list and then do a Delete operation that affected just the selected items.
Sorry for the late response.
I helped you open a Feature Request, the number is FR201007-1859. I will keep you informed asap if there is any update on it, or you can contact your account manager to track its progress.
Thank you for being a Websense customer!
