I have a problem in which after I stop and start the Web Filter service, the application captures users IP address and not their username. In the past I have been able to restart the Web Filter Service again and this will help get EUM working again but it does not work every time.
I tried the troubleshooting steps in the following KB article and my SWF server iscommunicating with my domain controllers fine. Established connections to both DCs.
KB 3429 : SWF EUM reports showing IP addresses, not machine names
http://kb.surfcontrol.com/article.asp?article=3429&p=12
Is there anything else I can do to ensure the SWF pulls the user names. All my rules are based off user names.
Hi there,
Are you using the DC 2008?
Taylor
We are using 2003 DCs. Yesterday i purged my database because it rose over 4GB. I now setup a scheduled job to monthly archive and pruge. Could this have something to do with it? Like I said earlier, in the past if I restarted the web filter service, I would have a EUM issue. I would simplely restart EUM again and the names would populate again with no problem.
This morning I expected to see more names resolved when I looked in the real-time monitor figuring people logged off last night and logged on this morning. A few names populated (10%).
The web filter service has a hard time stopping on it's own also. It sits in the "stopping" state for a very long time. Typically I wait 5-10 minutes and then I kill the scoutsvc process. This cannot be normal either.
what's your version? any changes recently?
Running version 5.5.3.201
Other than purging the database, nothing has changed on the server.
You can apply the SP3:
Web Filter for Windows Service Pack 3

Thanks,
Hello Taylor,
I am having the same issue, i have 2% of the users that show up, the rest are IP addresses. I am running SP3 and I do have a Windows 2008 domain controller, the rest are Windows 2003 DCs, 5 total. I ahve verified that all DCs have the ini file properly configured. Even users who authenicate from a Windows 2003 DC are not showing up.

I have this exact same problem, but I'm using 5.5.4.117 SP4. Plus the KB article in unavailable. I know I'm digging up an almost 3 year old thread, and that I should upgrade, but that is not doable at this time. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Same problem here -- most of the users resolve, but one user remains an IP address and so his Rules are not applied. Websense needs to address this. Simply telling paying customers that they neeed to pay more for another product is NOT support!
