Were upgrading to a newer Websense Triton web filter server, I'm trying to add our global catalog server but can't seem to get the new websense server to talk to it. I'm using the ip address, I've set up a service account and made it a domain admin. We have an OU called service accounts for accounts like this and that is where the account is listed. However when I test the connection I keep getting a "Unable to connect to the directory" error. Our firewalls are all turned off as a domain policy so I'm pretty sure that it isn't being blocked. The port number is correct, I've verified that the server i'm trying to connect to is a Global Catalog server. Anyone else have any ideas?
Have you tried connecting to it by DNS instead of IP? AD may need to know the hostname of the DC it's talking to.
Just to make sure too, I'd try the telnet test to make sure the port is open (log onto the Websense server, type "telnet <DC Server> <PORT>" (use Command prompt in Windows) and see if you get any connection response or not.
Also make sure your service account name is set correctly. Sometimes you need to do the entire LDAP path and sometimes you can get away with serviceaccount@domainname.
I've tried both. This is a server 08 R2 server that is running the triton software and is our GCDC, and I blieve telnet is disabled on those. I've tried about every way I can think of to put the display name in and still a no go.
When i go to Triton settings>User Directory and select AD for my User directory server, and put all the info in there the test succeeds. So I'm not sure why the other part is having so much trouble.
Are you using the Native Mode or the Mixed Mode option? We're running in mixed mode, but had to use the Native Mode option.
Telnet client is just not installed by default anymore in Win2k8. You can add it through Programs and Features.
