Hello,

Please Help!!!   When a site is being blocked I get the webpage that is titled "Access to this site is blocked", but the blocked webpage, is not displaying correctly.  The 2 frames are not displaying anything useful. they both contain the same info:

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

Most likely causes:

  • You are not connected to the Internet.
  • The website is encountering problems.
  • There might be a typing error in the address.

What you can try:

 - Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure you are connected.

 - Retype the address.

 - Go back to the previous page.

More information

I know the policy is working cause the page is blocked, and title bar says so. But like I said the "block page" is not working, and the numbers on the Websense "Today: Health, Security and Value since Midnight" page is not updating...

In your webproxy settings, have an exception not to proxy the ISA itself..

What is happening is that the browser is going back to the proxy ISA to get to the block pages, instead of redirecting to the block pages themselves that the clients would access directly.

Check your ISA logs for denied connections, and open the firewall to allow access, or put the filter service OFF the ISA server.

Rule i'm talking about is tocreate an ISA Server firewall rule to allow display of Websense block pages:

Name: Websense BlockPage
Action: Allow
Protocol: HTTP
From: Internal and Local Host
To: Internal and Local Host
Condition: All Users

Just wanted to save this is exactly the same issue I had today. So a big thank you for the above solution !!

ISA was blocking the websense block page, so kept coming up with a Isa block message and not websense, d'oh !

Only small change I made was the To part instead of Internal and Local Host I just pointed it to the websense server.

I had the same problem and the rule but limited the To to the Websense Server

Name: Websense BlockPage
Action: Allow
Protocol: HTTP
From: Internal and Local Host
To: Websense Server
Condition: All Users

Hi There,

We too facing the same issue but the difference is as below:

Integration partner: Squid proxy web cache

Problem sites: HTTPs sites.

Any idea for this

If Squid acts as a proxy server, do you have configured it to filter all HTTPS traffic?

1. Go to the /etc/wsLib/ directory and open the wsSquid.ini file in a text editor.
2. Under initSection, change the value of UseHTTPSBlockPage to yes.The default setting is no, which causes Squid to permit all HTTPS traffic.
3. Save your changes.
4. Restart Squid Web Proxy Cache.

All requests for HTTPS pages are filtered, but if a request is blocked, Squid Web Proxy Cache sends a Squid-generated error page to the user. Users do not see the Websense block page, because Squid Web Proxy Cache is unable to deliver it.

Best regards

The reason you'll see Page Cannot be Displayed errors in IE for HTTPS sites being blocked is due to Websense being unable to hijack / redirect an HTTPS session due to its encryption like it does to HTTP sites.  All it can do instead is just deny the connection so you get the generic IE "Something went wrong" error.

So, what do most companies do to resolve this?  We are trying to block several HTTPS sites at our company, and are also trying to avoid users calling in telling us that their internet is broken because they are getting an "internet is broken" message instead of a blocked page from Websense.  I would even be ok with Squid being able to hijack and send the message, as long as something can get through to let users know it's blocked at the company level.

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:

•Internet connectivity has been lost.

•The website is temporarily unavailable.

•The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.

•The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain.

•There might be a typing error in the address.

•If this is an HTTPS (secure) address, click Tools, click Internet Options, click Advanced, and check to be sure the SSL and TLS protocols are enabled under the security section.

Timwelch, really the only way to "fix" that is to use an integration that can redirect a blocked HTTPS connection to a block page.  I know the Websense Content Gateway definitely can do it, but not sure beyond that.

Hello. We have Websense Content Gateway  (two V5000 appliances) and we're suffering tha same problem: Cannot display webpage with IE and https websites. Now, for instance, facebook is redirecting everything is not https on https://www.facebook.com.

Is there a specific configuration on v5000 to solve that?

Thanks in advance.

Stefano.
