Version 7 introduced a somewhat arbitrary timeout value 30 minutes for Websense Manager sessions.  I would like to see this as a user-configurable parameter.  I'm fine with it having a maximum value  - I'd suggest eight hours.  When I'm spending a lot of time going back and forth to Websense it's annoying to have to repeatedly log back in.  I can see that part of this may be due to your design choice to limit how many users (that is, one) may be logged in with the Super Administrator role and also may be a problem with how you serialize updates.  But- I'm sure you can find a way to make it work!

Amen to that Brother, another vote from me for custom timeout setup...I'm dipping in and out of it all day and it's a pain limited to 30min timeout....after all if a user gets locked out a policy server a service restart will give them off, right?

This is already a feature request (FR200907-137) for "Configure length of time before timeout".

Boo yah!  Good to hear.  Is there some place we can search these feature requests so we don't clog up the forums with duplicates?  Thx.

no, but this forum would be an IDEAL pleace to search for those... Possibly if Victor or another moderator sets up a stickied post that lists all the existing feature requests, that could prevent duplicates.....

(now lets see if he gets this post)

Websense User Experience

Everyone,

Thank you for your interest in the Websense Feature Request (FR) process and your excellent new ideas for our products.  FR numbers such as the one above are created in response to formal customer requests for a feature via a sales engineer.  If you are a customer who wants to track the progress of a request, please use that method.

The Websense User Experience Team does monitor these feature request forums and creates new FRs based on your ideas.  Existing FRs are updated based on additional comments from other customers when appropriate.  However, we do not update the forums with the ongoing status of these feature requests.  Please rest assured that your ideas are being heard. We encourage you to discuss in these forums the details of why you would like these features. This helps us determine how to implement them correctly.

Is this still a FR, going on three years?

I don't know if this is still an FR, but I'm on 7.6 and stay logged in with limited privileges all day without timing out.  Take these steps the first time:

  1. Login to the main console window. (https://[host]:9443/triton/login/pages/loginPage.jsf
  2. Click on Investigative Reports.
  3. Click on Full Screen Mode.
  4. Bookmark this second window.
  5. Go back to the main console window, and click on Today.
  6. Click on Status Monitor Mode.  You'll be automatically logged out and re-logged in with limited privileges.

It's easier after the first time:

  1. Login to the main console window. (https://[host]:9443/triton/login/pages/loginPage.jsf
  2. Open a second tab or second window, whatever you prefer.
  3. Use your Full Screen bookmark (From step 4 above).
  4. Go back to the main console window, and click on Status Monitor Mode.
The login is a bit of a pain, but it's better than getting constantly timed out.  You can now go back and forth between the two windows/tabs all day.  However, you will need to log out and log back in if you need to do any admin work (URL recategorization, etc.)  Fortunately, I only need to do that once or twice a week.
