Once a week the database fails to load.  When I check the process it is usually stuck in the very first stages of download or update.  I usually have to reboot the server or stop/start a bunch of services (namely the filter service i think) .. This isnt normal...  Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this issue?  There is currently no antivirus loaded so that isnt getting in the way..

I'd recommend just blowing away your local copy of the master database and letting it redownload a fresh copy from scratch and see if that fixes it for you.

Can you give me an exact procedure for performing this? We have done this before and this issue crops back up. Skip

I get that error all the time at least 3 times a day. I'm not even sure if its the fact that its the load on the network my side or if its the network on the websense side, What i do know is we have a 100mb link to the net and this error generally occurs durning peak periods.

I check it an hour or so later and the latest database has been downloaded with no problem.

Best of luck Marcus

I am experiencing the same behavior, but intermittently after applying the latest MS patches. I opened a support request and was told that there is nothing they can do because there is not Hot Fix avaialble for version 7.5.3. In addition, support stated that this issue is no present in Websense V 7.6.2/5. Furthermore, they said that this problem has something to do with the policy server and filter service disconnect.

I hope this helps...

Chiming in with a 'same here' on version 7.6.2 with hotfixes.  Did not have this issue while running 7.5 with hotfixes over the past 12 mo.

We have a central policy server and multiple network agents all running on Windows 2003 R2.

Upgraded to 7.6.2 to accommodate a database migration from SQL 2005 to SQL 2008 R2 and began to see this behavior.

Had the same issue again this morning.

Stopping the Filtering service and starting fixes the problem.  The issue seems to arise when the update process stalls.  You get no emails because the update process never "Fails" ..

Next step is to install the latest 7.6 version (7.6.5?)

Have exactly same issue with 7.6.5 in 2 totally isolated environments (one a test one)

All of the 3 options work for that moment / but not for scheduled subsequent automated updates :(

1: Cancelling the download / awaiting the "The Filtering service at x.x.x.x is loading the master database" alert to disappear.. then forcing a manual database update.

2: Restart the 3 filtering server services

3: Reboot the physical / Virtual server itself.

Had no issue with version 7.6.2 so assume some database issue has crept in, effecting numerous software builds.
