  • Re: Database download failure

Thank you WebSense, for introducing an issue that requires SO MANY customers to FIX for you. What change was introduced into the Database that now requires an SQL script patch to make the Database installation function? Nice Quality control! We started seeing this error today, on DB version 03906. Everything worked fine for us before now, thought we had dodged that bullet... not so lucky I guess... x.x.x.112 03904 Update attempt failed on 2011-08-31 09:25:35 because The Master Database download failed

  • Re: Export Policies spreadsheet not in a usable format

HEY WEBSENSE... It really sounds like this is an enhancement request that is wanted by a LOT of clients... Pardon my venting, but how long does it take to roll out enhancements? It seems that all these requests go into your system, and fall into a large "Black Hole", never to be heard from again unless it is actually encorporated into a new release. This particular request is a great "case in point": 1: Original enhancement request sent in September 2009. 2: Version 7.5 released

  • Re: Websense 6.3 unable to authenticate newly created users

You need to stop the Logging server service (Start/Programs/WebSense/Utilities/Log Server Configuration, select "Stop" (logging will continue to cache), and then run the TestLogServer. See this article for more detail: http://www.websense.com/support/article/t-kbarticle/Using-TestLogServer-with-Websense-Enterprise Remember to RESTART the logging service after running the TestLogServer...

  • Re: home use appliance

As Jacob stated, WebSense is geared towards enterprise systems. For home use, I personally use K-9 Web Protection on each PC (Free!), and use the free version of "Untangle" as my Gateway protection. (You need a dedicated PC for this with 2 NIC's). There are a lot of other free home web protection programs you could use also... Or if your company policy permitted, you could add your home PC's as "Remote" Systems and use the WebSense filtering that way...

  • Re: Websense 7.5 reporting one user as another

This is kind of a "left field" answer, probably won't help, but is his workstation in an AD group that limits access? We had an issue like this where the Workstation was limited to what servers it could reach, and did not have rights to send the logon information to the WebSense Server.. Otherwise, you might have a service that is running under this other user on this machine, and it is sending that as the user information to WebSense.

  • Re: Adding 500 users in a policy in the client type User

I believe the easiest solution would be to create SPECIFIC AD Groups for Internet Access only, put the users into the Group for their level of Internet access. IE. "Normal Internet Access" group, "Multimedia Internet Access" group, and "Limited Internet Access" group, and assign the WebSense Policies to those groups. It may be more work up-front, but after it is fully set up, it is easier (in my opinion) to maintain. (No issues with "more or less restrictive"

Thanks for that added information Glitch... You are also right, and that is pretty much how we do it. We have 8 different AD OU's/Groups for Internet access (streaming, social, full, limited, etc...) and a WebSense Policy for each of those OU's/Groups. Anybody who is NOT associated with any of those groups falls under the WebSense "Default Policy", which we have set to block EVERYTHING.

  • Re: Missing the file LogonApp_ReadMe.txt

In a Windows Server default installation environment, the "LogonApp_ReadMe.txt" files is in "Program Files\Websense\bin\en" - It has all the switches and descriptions.

  • Re: The Websense subscription laptops and multiple subnets

1: The Laptop would only use ONE subscription (initially). IF you moved that laptop to another subnet, then you would use another subscription. And on, and on, until you COULD use up 55 subscriptions with this one laptop (that would be one BUSY user to move around that much!). 2: The PC would use a subscription for the first IP, then another for the new IP address. 3: WebSense "resets" the license/subscription count at midnight each night, so the count starts over at that time. I am not
